A couple of days before Valentine’s Day, I observed sunlight striking a three-wick candle adorned with golden symbols—a lamp, a sun, and a slipper—delicate symbols from Disney stories that I had long since hidden away. It appeared more like a memento than a product and was a part of Bath & Body Works’ enlarged Disney Princess collection.

This most recent release expands on the idea rather than merely revisiting the princesses. The brand encourages consumers to connect through scent with its five new scents and two re-released classics. It’s more than just nostalgia. Storytelling through the senses.

“Life’s a Fairytale,” a combination of berries, floral notes, and warm woods, is the collection’s standout scent. It seeks to represent all of the princesses, not just one. I was immediately struck by how surprisingly well-balanced it was. In contrast to overdone fruity scents, this one had a subtlety that lasted in a way that was both familiar and novel.

Rapunzel’s scent is light, gentle, delicately floral, and has a warm musk that doesn’t try too hard. It comes like spring after a long winter. It conveys assurance without being overt. It is especially wearable for everyday activities because, like Rapunzel, it leans toward brightness with a hint of earthy grounding.

Mulan’s scent takes a different turn, composed of aquatic notes with a hint of apricot and magnolia blossoms. It’s sophisticated, almost reflective, and has a new clarity without being overly dramatic. It did a remarkable job of conveying the character’s essence, which is quiet strength wrapped in grace, in my opinion.

Although Aurora has a rose-forward scent, it avoids being too sweet. Something substantial and mature is added by the sandalwood. It brought back memories of dressing up in my mother’s perfume as a kid in an attempt to appear more mature than I actually was. But this time, the scent seems to go well with it.

Some people may find solace in the fact that Snow White’s recipe heavily relies on apples and ripened fruit. Although I’ve never been into apple-based fragrances, I must say that the packaging was very charming, especially the wallflower with the two birds tying a ribbon. It has a poetic quality in terms of appearance.

Returning favorites Tiana and Belle haven’t changed, and to be honest, they didn’t have to. Belle’s fragrance is warm and consistent, with layers of vanilla and delicate flowers. The combination of water lily, amber, and woods in Tiana’s fragrance adds a touch of refinement that makes it unique.

Bath & Body Works makes sure they reach fans in a variety of ways by distributing these fragrances across 92 different products. The selection is remarkably extensive and includes everything from hand soaps to hydration creams, shimmer mists, and ornamental candle holders. Every piece is designed to complement both special occasions and everyday routines.

This rollout is especially innovative because of the well-defined product design strategy. While functional pieces like body wash or candles give the collection true utility, accessories like the castle pedestal and portable hand sanitizers provide playful luxury. It’s a clever combination—beautiful enough for a vanity table and functional enough for a bathroom shelf.

I noticed that I was grinning one morning when I was testing “Life’s a Fairytale.” It felt subtly affirming, like a soft nod to a version of myself I hadn’t given much thought to in a while, not because the scent was especially striking.

Selecting a fragrance has a very personal touch. Emphasizing how we want to feel is more important than hiding who we are. This collection does a beautiful job of embracing that. It acknowledges that adult women who used to dress up still desire a hint of sparkle, but they now like it layered under lotion instead of tulle.

Small-format sanitizers start at a reasonable $1.95, while showpiece accessories like the castle pedestal cost $125. Because of its notable inclusivity, the collection is both appealing to collectors and accessible to younger consumers.

The brand has created something that appeals to a variety of senses thanks to astute product design and extremely effective timing. A sense of exclusivity is added by granting loyalty members early access, which is particularly significant in retail communities where first access is seen as a badge of honor.

The timing of these collections’ releases—just before Valentine’s Day, when sentiment is strong, and self-gifting is at its height—is also deft. This is not an accident. It’s a deliberate placement that acknowledges the relationship between emotional ritual and personal care.

Bath & Body Works has shown a remarkable ability to change with its audience over the last few years. What started out as a regular mall stop has developed into a brand that can tell stories through experience, fragrance, and packaging. The way that this collaboration combines identity and memory feels especially novel.

To appreciate what has been done here, you don’t have to be a lifelong Disney fan. The accessories feel more like limited-edition works of art than gimmicks, and the fragrances are delicate enough to stand alone. In brand collaborations, particularly those with a nostalgic bent, that kind of restraint is uncommon.

This collection has a personal touch, whether you’re replenishing your body lotion supply or looking for a thoughtful present. And perhaps that’s what it leaves behind—a soft scent lift that invites remembrance, introspection, and reimagining.
