Igho Tiny Ubiribo Cause of Death: He Died at 43 — And the Story Behind His Final Days in Thailand Is Heartbreaking

The news was released in a way that was subtly confusing. Not overly dramatic. Not very loud. “Tiny” is just a name, a nickname, and a botched procedure thousands of miles away from home. Igho “Tiny” Ubiribo, a 43-year-old British-Nigerian businessman who had created an impressive life and documented it on Instagram, passed away in the early hours of March 6 in an intensive care unit in Bangkok following what coroner Jean Harkin officially determined to be a pulmonary embolism brought on by a cosmetic penile filler procedure. The information is devastating and medical, and it has now been verified by an inquest at the Inner West London Coroner’s Court.

In March, Ubiribo received an injection of 40 milliliters of lidocaine and hyaluronic acid into his penis at an unidentified Thai clinic. Following the procedure, he reportedly had a massage at their Marriott hotel in Bangkok with his wife, Danielle Simba Allen, who had been married in a lavish ceremony in Zimbabwe in 2022. Things started to fall apart during that massage. He collapsed twice after complaining of chest pain. Whatever tranquility the opulent hotel room provided was short-lived.

After being transported by ambulance to Sukhumvit Hospital, he was initially able to respond to inquiries. Before a suggested CT scan could be carried out, Igho passed out after Danielle informed the doctors about the filler injections. Those minutes, the time between a scan that could have changed everything and the moment that gap closed, are impossible to ignore. He passed away in the early hours of March 6 despite the doctors’ best efforts to revive him for over 100 minutes.

Technically, the body already produces hyaluronic acid. From Seoul to Los Angeles, it is frequently used in dermal fillers for lips and faces. Usually lasting six to nine months, hyaluronic acid penis fillers can cost up to $9,000. The risk is something that marketing rarely addresses, and it can be quite serious in clinic settings that are not well-monitored in medical tourism hotspots. The diagnosis of a pulmonary embolism was supported by a postmortem performed in the UK, which revealed that cellular material in Ubiribo’s lungs matched the hyaluronic acid used in the penile filler injection. According to Coroner Harkin, he passed away “as the result of a cosmetic procedure abroad.” The clinic that carried it out is still unknown to the general public.

By most external standards, Ubiribo had succeeded. A British-Nigerian businessman with a $1.1 million house in the Crenshaw neighborhood of Los Angeles and a $600,000 apartment in London, he posted pictures of his opulent lifestyle on social media. With about 185,000 Instagram followers, he had a strong, active following that followed his life in real time rather than being a mega-influencer. Though most of the darker jokes are more about social media than about him, the irony of a nickname like “Tiny” combined with the nature of his final procedure hasn’t gone unnoticed on the internet.

Davido, a Nigerian singer, and other notable people attended his funeral. A close friend, Cubana Chief Priest, posted a video from the funeral and penned a tribute that was equal parts sorrow and celebration of the life Ubiribo created. Igho was reportedly buried in a gold coffin that cost over $745,000 in London. Perhaps the most depressing aspect of it all is that the way of life was visible even in death. No amount of wealth could undo the circumstances that claimed the life of a man who was known for projecting abundance at the age of 43.

It’s difficult to avoid seeing this as part of a larger narrative about something unsettling, such as the industry for cosmetic procedures that operates in the gray areas of medical tourism, the way social media subtly puts pressure on men just as much as it does on women, and the particular vulnerability of well-known individuals who feel pressure to be flawless in every aspect of their lives. Nobody outside of Ubiribo’s marriage can genuinely claim to know whether he felt that pressure or just made a personal decision with disastrous bad luck. It is evident that there is a regulatory gap that results in fatalities. He is not the first. Most likely, it won’t be the last.

Private Therapy Clinics is an independent online magazine covering therapy, mental health, and wellbeing across the United Kingdom. We are not a clinic, and we do not provide medical or therapeutic services. What we do instead is tell the stories of an industry that rarely tells its own.
The world of private healthcare in Britain is famously discreet. It operates behind frosted glass and understated brass plaques, from Harley Street consulting rooms to residential retreats in the countryside. Yet demand for these services has never been higher. NHS waiting lists have grown, conversations about mental health have moved into the open, and more people than ever are weighing up private care for the first time — often with very little independent information to guide them.
