On television, Alison Hammond exudes an unmistakable sense of joy. She usually fills a room, both physically and emotionally, whether she’s making fun of a co-host on This Morning or laughing uncontrollably during an interview. For many years, that extravagant personality was accompanied by a highly visible battle with obesity. Then something started to shift, almost silently.

Hammond has lost about 11 pounds over the last few years, a change that didn’t happen overnight and didn’t fit the conventional celebrity narrative. No dramatic TV disclosures. No injections for quick fixes. Rather, it happened gradually through exercise, dietary changes, and—possibly most importantly—a mental change that her loved ones believe was long overdue.

Hammond was said to have weighed about 28 stone at her heaviest. When people first hear that number, they often find it shocking, but when they watch old TV footage from the early 2000s, it seems like her health issues were already apparent. She was undoubtedly vivacious, but she frequently discussed the difficulties she faced in controlling her weight in a field that prioritizes appearance.

The diagnosis of pre-diabetes, which Hammond later described as frightening, seems to have been the true turning point. The fact that her mother had type 2 diabetes appears to have intensified the situation. It’s possible that the diagnosis brought about a certain clarity—health was no longer an abstract concern for the future. It happened right away. From then on, her strategy appeared almost refreshingly conventional.

Hammond started working out multiple times a week with a personal trainer. Interestingly, though, she avoided the kind of taxing cardio exercises that are frequently linked to weight loss. Alison just didn’t enjoy long treadmill sessions, according to her coach, and enforcing that routine would have probably ruined the plan before it started.

Rather, they concentrated on resistance circuits and strength training, which are shorter sessions meant to maintain an elevated heart rate while gaining muscle. Watching clips of these workouts online, there’s a surprising intensity to them. Swings with kettlebells. sled pushes with weights. medicine ball slams. Not exactly a light workout.

However, the sessions usually lasted about half an hour, which appears to have made a difference. Long enough to be significant. It is brief enough to be repeated every week. It turns out that consistency usually wins out over enthusiasm.

Over time, her weekly regimen became more manageable: low-intensity walking on rest days, resistance circuits, and sporadic boxing sessions. Occasionally, Pilates—especially reformer Pilates, a machine-based variation of the discipline that many celebrities secretly vouch for—entered the mix. Exercise was just one aspect of the situation, though.

Though not in the strict manner that people frequently anticipate, dietary adjustments did play a part. Hammond has stated time and time again that she opposes outright food bans. Rather, she favors moderation. Though not in the quantities that used to feel typical, she still enjoys traditional meals, occasionally even a full English breakfast consisting of eggs, bacon, and sausage.

Although that philosophy may seem straightforward, upholding it consistently is a different story.

On the periphery of her routine, little habits also started to emerge. Exercises planned early enough in the day to be difficult to miss, ginger shots in the morning, and sporadic circuit classes at a traditional London gym. It’s the kind of small-scale lifestyle adjustment that frequently maintains significant progress but seldom makes headlines.

Additionally, there is a psychological component that is more difficult to measure. People who have observed Hammond over the years occasionally comment that she appears more composed and deliberate these days. It’s challenging to determine if that’s what caused or resulted in her weight loss. Maybe it’s both.

It has been strangely comforting to watch this play out in public. Hammond’s story feels slower and, in a sense, more relatable in a time when celebrity weight loss is frequently associated with drugs or surgical shortcuts. Although they may not sound glamorous, strength training, a healthy diet, and consistent dedication seem to have worked.

It took several dramatic months for the transformation to occur. Almost five years have passed. And of all the details, that may be the most telling.
