Bunnie Xo Plastic Surgery – Jelly Roll’s Wife Goes Under the Knife and Documents Every Swollen, Bruised Moment

A certain type of celebrity disclosure seems premeditated, such as the flawlessly lit reveal photo, the soft-focus before-and-after, or the tactful reference to “a little work done.” Then there was what Bunnie Xo did in March 2026, which was practically the exact opposite of everything mentioned above. It’s not a public relations tactic to have drainage tubes, a swollen face she likened to Bert Kreischer, and a caption that said, “I know, I did this to myself but damn.” That’s a person in a recliner on day six of recovering from a facelift, running out of movies from the 2000s to watch again, and losing, in her words, “all faith in humanity.”

On the March 13 episode of her podcast, Bunnie Xo—real name Alisa DeFord, founder of Dumb Blonde Productions, and wife of country music artist Jelly Roll—announced her impending makeover with minimal fanfare. She asked for prayers and informed the audience that she would be having surgery two days later. It was going to look rough, she told them. She then fulfilled every aspect of that pledge, sharing recovery updates that demonstrated what a major facial procedure looks like in the days following it, which is to say, nothing like the final product.

The choice itself had taken years to come to. For the better part of three years, Bunnie had been attempting to resolve issues with old filler that had accumulated and migrated over time. She repeatedly dissolved it. “It only slightly improved,” she said. Filler layered on top of filler over years, eventually producing results that cannot be undone with a dissolving agent alone, is a more frequent occurrence than the cosmetics industry tends to promote. She eventually came to the conclusion that she did not want to continue using the same tools to fix the same issues. The more permanent reset she had been considering for some time was the facelift, a deep-plane procedure that targeted her mid-face, cheeks, jawline, neck, temples, and upper eyelids.

The part that most public figures discreetly skip was what came after the surgery. Nevertheless, Bunnie posted it. In the video, her lower face was covered in bandages, there was obvious bruising that extended down to her neck, and she had the kind of puffiness that makes even close friends cringe. She said that she felt as though she was being choked from ear to ear due to the physical sensation of post-surgical tightness. At some point during her recuperation, she uploaded a video of herself trying to eat sushi and finding it difficult to open her mouth large enough to handle a piece. It’s the kind of detail that doesn’t fit into any clinical description.

It is difficult to ignore the extent to which that transparency upset the routine of coverage of celebrity cosmetic surgery. The story usually skips the awkward middle and goes straight from “source close to the star” conjecture to polished revelation. Bunnie filled that void. The effect was the same whether that was deliberate or just in line with the way she operates her podcast, which has always leaned toward uncensored personal disclosure. Individuals paid attention in different ways.

For years, she has been candid about several procedures, such as breast implants, buccal fat removal, and two rhinoplasties. She has also publicly discussed body positivity and self-acceptance. This combination usually draws attention, and it most likely will here as well. However, there is merit to the notion that self-love and surgery are not inherently mutually exclusive. Living inside that tension is at least more honest than pretending it doesn’t exist, and Bunnie doesn’t seem to be as interested in finding a solution.

Bunnie posted updates about the facelift recovery well into April, as the initial tightness subsided and the swelling progressively decreased. The final results of a deep-plane facelift typically take months to fully settle, so what she showed her audience in those initial weeks was just the beginning of what the procedure would eventually produce. As is always the case, it is still unclear exactly what her long-term outcomes will be. However, she provided enough information for people to grasp what they would be signing up for in practical terms.

Bunnie Xo’s approach to her own procedure was more akin to journalism in a media landscape where cosmetic surgery is either completely concealed or packaged into aspirational content. Messy, intimate, funny at times, and actually educational. It’s not as common as it should be.

Private Therapy Clinics is an independent online magazine covering therapy, mental health, and wellbeing across the United Kingdom. We are not a clinic, and we do not provide medical or therapeutic services. What we do instead is tell the stories of an industry that rarely tells its own.
The world of private healthcare in Britain is famously discreet. It operates behind frosted glass and understated brass plaques, from Harley Street consulting rooms to residential retreats in the countryside. Yet demand for these services has never been higher. NHS waiting lists have grown, conversations about mental health have moved into the open, and more people than ever are weighing up private care for the first time — often with very little independent information to guide them.
